Online therapy in Seattle: what to look for before you book.

Finding a therapist in Seattle can feel oddly overwhelming. There are long directories, similar-sounding profiles, and plenty of people who list the same specialties. The hard part is not finding a name. It is figuring out who might actually feel right to talk to.

Online therapy gives people in Seattle more options without adding another drive across town. You can meet from home, a private office, or another quiet place in Washington. That flexibility can matter when your schedule is already full or when getting from one neighborhood to another turns a 53-minute appointment into a two-hour project.

Start with the problem you want help with

A therapist does not need to specialize in every part of your life. They should understand the part that keeps bringing you back to the search bar.

You may be looking for help with adult ADHD, anxiety, trauma, grief, bipolar disorder, or burnout. You may also know only that you are exhausted, stuck in the same patterns, or tired of looking capable while feeling frayed underneath. Either starting point is valid.

Read beyond the list of specialties. Look for a therapist who explains how they work and who they tend to connect with. Their words should give you some sense of what it might feel like to sit with them. You can review my therapy specialties and approach to therapy before reaching out.

Confirm Washington licensure

For online therapy, your physical location during the appointment matters. Choose a clinician who is licensed to practice in Washington and ask what happens if you travel or temporarily stay in another state.

I am licensed in Washington as an LMHC, license LH60439788. I also hold licenses in Wisconsin and Florida, which can be helpful for clients who regularly spend time in more than one of those states.

Ask practical questions early

A consultation is a good place to ask:

  • Do you work regularly with the issue I am bringing in?
  • What does a typical session with you feel like?
  • Do you accept my insurance plan?
  • What happens if you are out of network?
  • What hours are available?
  • How do we decide whether the fit is right?

Balanced Living Counseling Services offers weekday telehealth appointments, generally between 9am and 3pm Pacific. I am in network with Cigna, Premera, Lifewise, and First Choice Health. Benefits vary by plan, so it is still important to confirm your coverage. The insurance and cost page explains what to ask.

Fit is more than credentials

Training matters. So does whether you can be honest in the room.

You do not have to decide everything during a consultation. Notice whether you feel talked at or talked with. Notice whether you can ask a question without feeling rushed. A good therapist will not be offended if you need time to think or decide someone else is a better match.

Online therapy should make care more accessible, not more impersonal. The screen is simply where the conversation happens. The relationship still matters most.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see a Seattle therapist online if I live elsewhere in Washington?

Yes. A Washington-licensed therapist can generally work with you while you are physically located anywhere in Washington.

Is online therapy private?

Sessions use secure video. You will also need a private space, headphones if helpful, and a reliable internet connection.

What if I am not sure what kind of therapy I need?

That is common. You do not need to diagnose yourself before reaching out. A consultation can help clarify what you want support with and whether the therapist's approach fits.
